#41 June 2 through 11th

June 2nd

The laundry is done, the boat is clean, the refrigerator is cleaned out, my bag is packed.  Going to take some stuff out and repack. Must be a minimalist for this trip. I don't want to carry lots of luggage on trains, subways, etc. I've caught up on my bills, made soup with stuff left in frig and put it the freezer. Have just enough for supper tonight and tomorrow will get a taxi to the train station just 2 miles away.

A beautiful sunset with a promise of good weather tomorrow.

June 3rd through the 7th

My sojourn home for Beautiful Emma's graduation was pleasant, relaxing and rejuvenating.  It was a wonderful celebration. Emma is one Happy young woman, looking forward to pre-requisites at OCC then full transfer to Grand Valley next year.  The following pics are just a hint of the fun.

Very Proud parents

Smiles all around!

Mom, Aunt Kelly, Emma, Aunt Sandi. Four of the Eight most beautiful women in my family!

Jeff's Mom joined in the celebration as well as Jeff's Sister, Laurie and husband Scott.

No words!

Sandi, Emma, JR

Emma and her Grams

On Monday the 5th, my friend Pam who works just 2 miles from Wendi, picked me up after work and took me to her house. We were able to catch up and chat for a while til Sandi picked me up at Pams. What a revelation when I reached Sandi's -- she and JR are embroiled in a massive inside renovation. It is magnificent! They've removed walls, gutted the kitchen, moved the fireplace, enlarged the laundry room, created a pantry, removed the open stairway rails and treads for renovation to painted spindles and uncarpeted treads stained to match the new flooring. Changed and moved lighting. they do have a contractor doing the major carpentry, hanging cabinets and all trim and shelving; but they have done the demo, floors, cleanup, stairs and will be doing all caulking and painting. They are both exhausted, but so close to final paint and cleanup.
Jeff, Wendi's husband, met Sandi at Tim Horton's in Lake Orion where she handed me off!  I feel like a commodity!😍 Jeff then took me to airport June 8th for NY to meet my next crew, Conor and Aidan.

June 8th

Instead of heading right to the boat, we wandered around NYCity, Times Square, lunch at a diner, 5th Avenue, Central Park, the play "Beautiful, the Carol King story"; dinner at the Knickerbocker, and more wandering around Times Square.  What a magnificent City!!  You certainly see it ALL there!!
Too bad! we were too late to see my favorite
show, Good Morning America!

Even Horatio got a run in Central Park!

Here is the way to see a play, "lidded"
glass of wine!  to the right is the first scene; "Carol" comes out and plays and sings and then it all sequals into her life story. I was blown away by how many hit songs she has written for many famous recording artists in the 60's.

This is 11 PM. Look at all the people, truly a city that never seems to sleep.

And, of course, MY favorite store and character.  Ms. Green

We had a good time but are, secretly, looking forward to tomorrow!!

June 9th

Thursday, the 9th the boys and I headed for Grand central Station to a train bound for Half Moon Bay, Croton on Hudson. Without a hitch we found our tickets, found our train at track 42. (Believe it or not, there are 119 tracks in/at Grand Central !!!
Tom and Coletta, friends on Greeks Folly met us at the train, took us to the grocery to provision, then on to the boat.  What a nice gesture! We stowed our provisions, settled in, then went over boat systems and procedures, checked oil and fluids had a great dinner, played some cards and hit the sack!

June 10th

Our adventure up the Hudson River begins:

The "Citadel"  -- West Point
Impressive!

Horatio has found a 'snuggle' buddy!

50 miles today to our first anchorage.
Kingston, NY just off to the side of the river.

There are many 'looper' boats anchored here
also.

Below is a tanker on its way down the river from Albany to NY and the ocean.

June 11th

Today was a relaxing, beautiful run up the river 35 miles to a Marina called Shady Harbor. we heard there was a BBQ celebration. So we and four other boats from the anchorage stopped. Thought it was a town celebration but it was Marina sponsored for "Loopers" and all boaters!
Tomorrow we will travel just 22 miles to Waterford and the start of the Erie canal. Conor and Aidan will get the experience of the first lock at Troy, just before the Waterford cutoff.
